“Over Fifty Years of Professional Machine Service In Middle Tennessee”
In 1959 Raymond Lane Sr. was serving as maintenance manager for Baird Ward Printing Company. Robert Gibson was working for Baird Ward as a maintenance employee. They made a decision to leave Baird Ward and purchased Cumberland Machine & Supply from Mr. Bob Rosetta.
The Company was doing business in the Nashville area serving small industries and supplying water pumps and service for rural water customers.
Many of the industrial customers were entrepreneur lead companies such as Nashville Electrotype, Tennessee Tufting, Standard Candy, Rock City Box, Curley Printing, Williams Printing and Jacobs Packing. Many times Raymond Sr. collected from these customers weekly to make payroll.
The shop at that time was located at 1208 5th Avenue North, just two blocks from our current location. Knowing the need for expansion and better facilities, land was purchased at 1305 4th Avenue North.
A building located in East Nashville scheduled to be torn down was purchased for the bow string roof supports and wooden roof material. Work then began at the end of regular days along with nights and weekends to build a new shop. A second building was later added to the original building and a portion leased out to cover the cost of adding a second building. The remaining part of the building was used as a fabrication shop.
Years later, Robert Gibson retired and Raymond Sr. purchased his interest in the business. Cumberland Machine Company continued to grow with more employees and servicing more and more industry. The shops grew larger with each building and expansion, and shop equipment continued to keep pace with technology. As industry grew in Tennessee, so did Cumberland Machine Company with in-plant support by providing skilled men on-site to supplement their maintenance and project work.
Today, under the leadership of Raymond Lane Jr., Cumberland Machine Company supports the tire industry, automotive suppliers, printing, aluminum, both fresh & waste water services, food industry, pipe manufacturers, and many others with the most experienced and skilled men available. We are ready to put our experience to work for you!
